This month, FX’s new show, Sons of Anarchy, premiered. I waited to for the first episode in anticipation. I
love shows about bikes.. I watched American Chopper, although I preferred Jesse Jame’s west coast chopper. I know it was all just show.. but I love bikes.. esp watching them being built. So it would be no surprise that this show would interest me.
Anyway, I was a little unsure how I felt about the first episode. They did enough research to be somewhat accurate. I heard they studied a few active 81 chapters… so they got much of it right, but being Hollywood, most of the show is exaggerated and glorified. I have a good idea of the way the MC world works.. and it ain’t like the movies!
Anyway, earlier today.. feeling bored, but avoiding work, I did some looking around online to get a feeling of what other bikers thought of the show. As I expected, there was plenty of opinions.. most in opposition. Many comments where made even before the show had aired. Many complained that it would give the real MCs a bad image (or worse image than they already have). Others, such as myself, worry that it will encourage even more interbreeding between yuppies and biker wannabes. But whats another squid riding around pretending to be a hardass.. In a couple years, the fad will have faded.. It is already starting to happen. How many people went out and bought a HD 100th anniversary sporty.. only to ride it once and sell it a year later… its all just a fad.
So let the yuppies enjoy themselves.. let people think what they want. In a few years.. they will be back to driving Corvettes and playing golf. I mean yeah.. it frustrates the hell outta me. Im always complaining about some yuppie wearing shorts and sandles as he rides his 2007 Roadking down to the nearest starbucks. But really.. we should just be laughing.
On a similar note.. who cares what people think or say. Being a true outlaw, a true rebel, a true 1%er is doing what you think is right in spite of what others think or say. MCs started as a way for WWII soldiers to get out some stress and keep their lives as interesting and engaging as the war had been. Its hard to walk away from a war zone and work back into civilian life.. many never made the transition… which is how MCs came about. The outlaw image is a mix of Hollywood and too many bikers who chose to make that image a reality.
Here is the post that sparked my comments. The comments are what interested me more than the post itself:
